Suhani's pov
I entered my room to grab my stethoscope, files, phone, and purse. As I walked in, there was a knock on the door.
"Miss Suhani, let me know if you need anything" said an attendee at the door.
"Oh, okay. I'll let you know, thanks" I replied. The attendee smiled, bowed, and left. I sighed, feeling a bit startled since I wasn't used to people offering help. I had always done things on my own ever since my parents and Maasi passed away. Memories came rushing back, and tears filled my eyes. I smiled sadly and wiped them away.
My eyes landed on a photograph on the bedside table. I picked it up, gently caressing the picture and kissed it softly.
"Wish me luck, Maa-Papa. I'm here for a reason, and I'll try to leave as soon as I can. I miss our home in Delhi" I whispered to the picture. I kissed it once more, placed it back, and collected my things. After taking a deep breath, I checked my reflection to make sure no one could tell I had been crying, then left the room.
10 minutes later
I entered the main hall where everyone else was gathered and smiled at Ahana and Krish, who smiled back. But Mr. Rathore was nowhere to be seen, which made me frown in confusion.
"Where's that crabby man?" I asked Ahana and Krish, who both looked puzzled.
"Who?" they said together, and I sighed, shaking my head.
"Who else? Mr. Rathore" I replied, causing Krish to laugh. I couldn't help but join in. But Ahana looked a little annoyed, which only made us laugh harder.
"Oh, come on, guys. Don't you think you're being a little insensitive?" she said, clearly not amused.
"Ohhh, to ye baat hai. Dekha Suhani, kaise ise bura lag raha hai" Krish teased her, still laughing.
(Oh so that's the thing, look, how she got offended for him)
"Haan, wo to dikh hi raha hai" I added sarcastically. Ahana shook her head and stormed off to sit in the car. Krish and I exchanged amused glances, giggling, and high-fived each other.
(Yeah, it's quite visible)
"Oh God, this girl, seriously," I said, shaking my head.
"Kahin ise pyaar na ho jaaye," Krish teased, hinting that Ahana might be crushing on Mr. Rathore.
"Aise thodi hota hai pyaar. Wo bas looks pe fida ho rahi hai. Aur waise bhi, I don't get what she sees in Mr. Rathore, you know uske har mahine crushes badalte rehte hain" I replied, sighing.
(That's not how love works. She's just into his looks. And besides, I don't get what she sees in Mr. Rathore. You know, her crushes change every month)
Just then, a bodyguard approached us. "Miss Suhani, Mr. Krish, the Prince said we're running late. Shall we go?"
I widened my eyes and glanced at Krish. "Oh no, he's really gonna kill us." He nodded, and the bodyguard left.
"Yeah, he's definitely going to kill us" I said, making Krish chuckle.
"I bet. He really seems to enjoy irritating you" Krish teased again.
"Yeah, yeah, sure" I said, rolling my eyes as we started walking toward the main gate.
"Suhani, you're really brave. That day, it seemed like you were the only one who could handle him" Krish said, and my heart started racing. I just shrugged it off and smirked a little.
"Well, he deserved it. I was trying to apologize, but he cut me off. I knew it was our fault for being 30 minutes late, but he could've been more understanding. Instead, he started fighting with me. We could've saved a lot of time if we hadn't argued, but he decided to fight with me" I said, and Krish nodded.
"I get his situation, but he could've been a little nicer" I added, thinking back to our first meeting, which was an absolute disaster. I sighed as we approached the perfectly parked cars.
Mr. Rathore was on the phone, surrounded by his bodyguards, while Ahana sat in the car. The driver smiled and opened the door for us. We smiled back.
Just then, Mr. Rathore noticed us standing near the car. Krish got in first, and as I was about to follow, my right foot stumbled. I felt myself falling and reached out, trying to grab something.
"Arghh!" I heard a familiar voice, and my eyes widened as I realized I had fallen into Mr. Rathore's arms. He had caught me by my waist, holding me tightly, preventing me from hitting the ground. Our eyes locked, and I found him staring at me. Flustered, I broke the eye contact and looked down. His phone had fallen from his hand while trying to save me.
(Fuck, I stepped on his feet and made him drop his phone!) I thought, looking back up at him. He was still glaring at me. our eyes met again, and my heart started racing. His intense gaze seemed to pierce right through me. I gulped hard and cleared my throat. He released his hold on my waist, glancing around, clearly trying to avoid my gaze. He took a deep breath as I stood up properly. I could tell he was struggling to keep from snapping at me, his jaw clenched in frustration, and he closed his eyes briefly in annoyance.
One of his bodyguards hurried over, picked up his phone from the ground, and handed it back after wiping it clean.
(Oh God, please save me today!) I silently prayed, looking at Mr. Rathore, who was still staring at me with those sharp eyes. I blinked, trying to say something, but just then...
"Dr. Suhani, do you realize that you made me drop my phone? I was discussing something very important" Mr. Rathore's rough, hoarse voice reached my ears, laced with irritation. I bit my lower lip, making an apologetic face.
"I—uh, I'm really sorry, Mr. Rathore" I replied, my cheeks heating up as his intense gaze pierced through me. Feeling embarrassed, I looked down. Just then, Krish and Ahana got out of the car.
"Suhani, are you okay?" Ahana asked, concerned. I nodded slightly, trying to brush it off.
"It's fine," Mr. Rathore replied curtly as an attendant rushed over and polished his black leather shoes. I rolled my eyes and quickly sat in the car. (Uff, thank you, God, you saved me today. He would've killed me for sure!) I muttered under my breath. Krish and Ahana joined me inside, and we all settled in.
Aditya's Pov
I was on the phone with Mr. Kumar, discussing an important meeting, when I turned around and spotted Dr. Suhani and Dr. Krish heading toward the car. I shifted my gaze elsewhere, not paying them much attention. A few moments later, I sensed someone next to me and suddenly realized Dr. Suhani was falling. My instincts kicked in, and I caught her just in time, but she stepped on my foot.
"Argh!" I groaned in pain. Did she have nails in her sandals? In the process of saving her, I dropped my phone. I held her waist to prevent her from hitting the ground. When I looked at her face, her eyelashes fluttered shut, and her face turned completely red. She opened her eyes, and our gazes met—her dark brown eyes locked onto mine, wide and startled. Realizing the position we were in, I hurriedly let go of her waist. My face heated up, and my heart pounded inside my chest. I looked away, avoiding her gaze, but she kept staring at me.
I cleared my throat, feeling my veins throb as the blood rushed to my head. I tried to calm myself, taking a deep breath. She apologized, her expression full of regret, and although I didn't want to make a big deal out of it, I accepted her apology. But when she rolled her eyes and walked away, I couldn't help but think, Was she faking it or what?
"This girl" I screamed in my head, struggling to calm my rising anger. Thank goodness my phone was still intact. I sighed, shaking my head, and watched her get into the car before I followed and sat down myself.
The driver started the car, and after about 30 minutes, we reached the hospital. We all stepped out and made our way inside, heading up to the 5th floor. There, I spotted Mr. Choudhary speaking with a doctor. I approached him, and when he noticed me, he smiled.
"Good morning, Prince" Mr. Choudhary greeted me.
"Good morning, Prince" the doctor echoed, and I returned their greetings. They were discussing Dadisa's condition, and soon, Dr. Suhani and her team joined us.
"Ranisa is recovering well. She just needs to watch her diet, and make sure she takes her medicines on time" the doctor informed us, and we all nodded in agreement.
"Don't worry, Doctor. I'll make sure of that" I replied, and he nodded.
"Let me check Ranisa's condition" Dr. Suhani said, heading towards the care unit with her team. I nodded, watching her leave.
Suddenly, my phone rang. I glanced at the caller ID.
"Yes, Mr. Kumar" I answered, stepping out with my bodyguards following closely.
"Okay, mail it to me" I replied before ending the call.
"Mr. Sanjay, increase the security" I instructed one of my bodyguards. He nodded and left to arrange for the palace security.
I turned my gaze back to the room and started walking towards it. I slightly opened the door and peeked inside.
"Ranisa, you're going to be completely fit and fine, I promise you" I heard Dr. Suhani say. She was holding Dadisa's hand, speaking to her softly.
"Ranisa, you're not going to eat anything that contains sugar, oily things, as your diabetes can cause heart attack in the near future, alright?" Dr. Suhani continued, and everyone in the room nodded. dadisa blinked in agreement.
"Thank you" Dadisa replied, her condition clearly much better than before. She was smiling, reacting, and even talking.
My eyes softened at the sight. Without even realizing it, a warm smile spread across my face as I watched her interact with everyone. I felt a deep sense of relief seeing her improve.
I entered the room, and everyone turned to look at me—except Dr. Suhani.I walked over to Dadisa, who looked at me with warmth and a smile. I smiled back and took a seat next to her bed. She grabbed my hand and placed a soft kiss on it, causing my smile to widen.
"We'll be waiting outside" I heard Dr. Suhani say. I nodded, and she and the others left, leaving me alone with Dadisa.
"How are you feeling now?" I asked softly.
"Much better" she replied gently, her smile reassuring.
"Just one more day, and then you'll be discharged" I said, and she nodded.
"Adi, humne suna hai ki aapka thoda jhagda ho gaya tha Dr. Suhani se" she said, her smile fading a little. I sighed, looking at her.
(Adi, I heard that you fought with Dr. Suhani)
"Did Mr. Choudhary tell you this?" I asked. She shook her head.
"It doesn't matter who told me. What matters is that you shouldn't have fought with her" she said, sounding a little upset.
"Dadisa, that day, I was so worried for you. I didn't know what to do. I was afraid of losing you, and I didn't want that. Sometimes, when things take longer than expected, you feel like you have to do things your own way" I explained, sighing.
"Adi, I didn't raise you to disrespect anyone. They're doctors, experienced in their field, and they came here on such short notice. Please, be a little more generous with them, hmm?" she said softly. I sighed again, taking a deep breath.
"Can you do me a favor?" Dadisa asked softly, her voice pulling me from my thoughts. I nodded, still caressing her hands.
"Apologize to her" she said, and my eyes widened in disbelief.
"What?!" I asked, hoping I misheard. She nodded gently.
"Saying sorry doesn't make anyone inferior, my child" she explained, her voice full of wisdom. I shook my head, not ready to agree so easily.
"Won't you keep your Dadisa's words?" she added, giving me that innocent look I could never refuse. I sighed, exasperated.
"You always do this, Dadisa" I muttered, and she smiled sweetly. I helped her sit up as she leaned forward, and she kissed my forehead lovingly. I smiled back, cupping her cheeks.
"Okay, I'll apologize. But you have to promise me—you won't eat anything that could harm you, no matter what. Is that clear?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
She nodded happily, and I smiled wider.
"Alright, then. Let me fulfill my Dadisa's wish" I said, and she nodded with a beaming smile. I kissed her hands once more before leaving the room.
As I exited the ward, I spotted Dr. Suhani talking with her teammates. I cleared my throat, straightened my tie.
(Aditya, you can do this. It's just one word. Well, not such a small word, but you can try. Come on, for Dadisa.) I mentally prepared myself and started walking towards her. My stomach churned as I bit my lower lip. Just as I approached, she turned around.
"Hello, prince" Dr. Ahana greeted with a wide smile.
"Hello" I replied , but my attention was already on Dr. Suhani.
"Dr. Suhani, can I talk to you for a moment?" I asked. She exchanged glances with her team before looking back at me, clearly confused but nodding nonetheless.
We walked towards an empty space, with me leading the way. When I stopped and turned to face her, I noticed her examining my face with curiosity. I cleared my throat again, trying to gather my thoughts.
"Mr. Rathore?" she asked, waiting patiently for me to speak. My mind cursed itself for stalling.
(Aditya, come on! You can do this. For Dadisa.) I reminded myself.
"Dr. Suhani..." I began, but her steady gaze unnerved me. I looked away, struggling to form the words.
"You wanted to talk about something?" she prompted, her tone patient.
"Yeah... I wanted... I mean, I-" I fumbled, the words refusing to come out. She waited quietly, her eyes still focused on me.
I took a deep breath and finally forced the words out. "I am sorry."
Her eyes widened, clearly taken aback. She stared at me like I had said something completely out of character.
"What? sorry I didn't hear clearly..." she asked, as if she couldn't believe it.
I clenched my jaw, feeling the frustration creep in. "For that day. I admit that my behavior was a little... rude" I said, emphasizing the last word reluctantly. She was doing her best to suppress a smile, but I could see the amusement in her eyes. I knew she was enjoying this far too much, which only made my irritation grow.
"Oh, so you finally accepted that you were rude for no reason" she teased, her smile mischievous and her tone mocking. I rolled my eyes, trying to keep my cool for Dadisa's sake.
"Kind of" I muttered, still irritated by her playful attitude.
"Whatever, you still admitted it" she said with a satisfied grin. I had enough and walked away, leaving her standing there with that childish smirk on her face.
"This girl..." I thought to myself, shaking my head.
