9- Awestrucked

Suhani's pov

He turned towards us, and our eyes met. I quickly rolled mine and broke the eye contact.

"Just wait a little longer, the staff will be here soon, and then we'll leave for the palace" he said in his strong, rough voice before striding towards the care unit where ranisa had been shifted.

"Dr. Suhani, I'm sorry if you felt angry. It's not his fault. he's just very concerned about Ranisa" Mr. Choudhary said, trying to defuse the tension.

"Mr. Choudhary, he really needs to change his attitude. There are other ways to convince people, he can't just force anyone to do things for him" I replied, my irritation rising.

"Actually, Dr. Suhani, he's a little protective of her" Mr. Choudhary explained, lowering his head slightly.

"I understand, but he's just too rude" I said patiently, striving to maintain my composure.

"Ranisa raised him with nothing but love and care, that's why" he added.

"I wonder about his parents, Why? Doesn't he have his parents?" I asked, curiosity piqued as I tried to make sense of his words.

"No, they aren't alive anymore. Ranisa brought him up on her own. It's not really my place to tell you this, but I wanted you to have a clearer picture of him. I know you might see him as rude and arrogant at times, but trust me, doctor, he has a heart of gold. Once he cares for someone, his whole world revolves around them. For him, Ranisa is more than a parent, she's his entire world. That's why he's so concerned about her" Mr. Choudhary finished with a soft smile.

(Why is my heart suddenly racing after hearing that?)

I took a deep breath and nodded at him, and he smiled gently back.

"Come, the staff has arrived, we should head to the palace" he said, and I nodded. The staff appeared in pristine white kurtas topped with elaborate shahi pagdis. I was taken aback by their attire—just wow. Even though I earned a good income, I never spent extravagantly. I preferred saving my money for necessities rather than splurging on luxuries. I cleared my throat and shrugged off my surprise.

"Dr. Mishra, Dr. Aditi, it was a pleasure working with you. I hope to collaborate again in the future" I said, approaching them and shaking their hands. They smiled warmly at me.

"It's our pleasure, Doctor.  newcomers like you three has so much potential, you're truly an inspiration for young doctors"Dr. Mishra stated, and Dr. Aditi nodded in agreement.

"Excuse me, doctors, I hope I'm not interrupting, but we need to reach the airport within an hour. I think we should leave" Mr. Choudhary interjected. We all nodded in agreement, and the staff began assisting them with their luggage.

We exchanged final goodbyes as they departed, leaving just Me, Krish, and  Ahana behind.

"Actually, there's been a slight change in the plan. The staff will carry your luggage and set up your rooms before your arrival at the palace" Mr. Choudhary announced as he hung up the call.

Mr. Rathore must have changed the plans. We nodded, and Mr. Choudhary left with Dr. Raghav, Dr. Aditi, and Dr. Mishra.

After sometime

Aditya's pov

I returned from the care unit after meeting Dadisa and noticed that Mr. Choudhary had left with the other doctors. He must have gone to drop them off at the airport. I had already spoken to the doctors, and they informed me that they would discharge her after three days.

"Dr. Krish, I've sent the luggage to the palace, and the staff has arranged the bedrooms for you. I think we should head there now" I stated straightforwardly. He nodded in agreement, but my gaze fell on Dr. Suhani, who was glaring at me. I couldn't help but smirk inwardly. For some reason, her irritation pleased me, even though it wasn't my place to interfere in her life. Yet, she had already entered mine to fulfill a vital task. she kind of caught my attention with that argument.

It was already dusk, and the doctors needed at least three or four hours of rest. I decided to take them to the palace and then return after they freshened up.

As we approached the elevator, I heard Mr. Choudhary's voice from behind. I turned to see him stepping off the other elevator.

"Mr. Choudhary" I acknowledged as he approached, bowing slightly. I nodded in response.

"I've dropped them at the airport, the airplane will take off within fifteen minutes," he said, and I nodded again.

"Okay,  We were just heading back to the palace," I replied.

"Let me accompany you, sir" he insisted. I sighed, knowing he was tired but not willing to show it.

"But you should take some rest as well," I pointed out.

"Sir, I'll rest after settling everything" he said seriously, and I smiled slightly at his dedication.

"Alright" I conceded, and we all entered the elevator. After five minutes, we reached the ground floor and exited the hospital.

Suhani's pov

We exited the hospital, and the bodyguards began guiding us to the cars. Four muscular bodyguards accompanied Mr. Rathore, while another four followed us, their imposing figures and weapons intimidating yet necessary for our security. I kept my composure, reminding myself that their presence was for our protection. Still, the sight of these giant men loaded with weapons made my heart race. I had always despised violence, so being surrounded by it felt foreign and unsettling. I knew that if a situation arose where they needed to use those weapons, they wouldn't hesitate for a second.

"You can take this one, Mr. Choudhary, and I'll be in the other one" Mr. Rathore's voice broke my trance. Without realizing it, we had already settled into the car.

(Suhani, calm down, calm down, calm down.) I tried to relax, but my hands began to shake. The image of my parents lying lifeless before me flooded my mind, and sweat beaded on my forehead. Suddenly, I felt a hand on my left shoulder.

"Sona, are you alright?" Krish asked, concern etched on his face as he noticed my strange behavior.

"N-Nothing," I stammered. (I think my panic attack is starting. I still feel vulnerable whenever I think of my parents' death, it shakes me to the core.)

" Ahana, please pass me the purse?" I requested, gesturing to where it rested near her hand. She passed it to me, and I hurriedly retrieved my pills, swallowing one quickly. Ahana then handed me a water bottle, and I drank it down gratefully, sighing in relief as the panic subsided.

"Sona, are you really okay?" she asked, worry evident in her voice as she placed her hand on my shoulder.

I nodded, trying to assure them. "You can tell if there's anything you want to talk about or if something is bothering you"  Krish added gently.

I shook my head. "There's nothing serious, guys. I'm totally fine." My voice was steady.

The car came to a stop, and my eyes widened as I took in the breathtaking sight before me. I couldn't believe what I was witnessing.

"Oh my God! This palace is like the palace of my dreams!"  Ahana exclaimed, her voice filled with wonder as she admired the ethereal architecture. She was right, it was truly beautiful and enchanting.

"I wish I could marry the prince so that I could live in this beautiful palace forever" she added, a playful hint of excitement and humor in her tone. I shook my head, sighing.

"Ahana, you'll get us killed" I said and she laughed, a smile still lingering on her lips.

The driver opened the car door for us, and we stepped out. Mr. Choudhary and Mr. Rathore approached us, they had arrived five minutes earlier.

"Welcome to the palace of Udaipur - Rathore Haveli" Mr. Choudhary said, his soft smile warming the atmosphere. We smiled back at him, but my attention was drawn to Mr. Rathore, who was already staring at me. (Wait, what? He was staring at me? Whatever.)

I redirected my focus to the magnificent palace before us. It was mesmerizing—absolutely stunning. The words "beautiful" and "magnificent" echoed in my mind as I admired the white facade adorned with intricate details. A stunning fountain graced the center of the garden, and lights and candles enhanced the palace's allure.

"Please, come" Mr. Choudhary urged, and we followed him. The staff approached us, ready to take our handbags, but I hesitated. My purse contained my medications, and I didn't want to hand it over in case of an emergency.

"Your luggage has already been sent to your rooms. The staff will show you to them. You can rest, and after that, we can head back to the hospital" Mr. Rathore stated in his characteristic cold, icy voice.

(What Mr. Choudhary told me about Mr. Rathore might be true, but I still disliked his rude attitude. I'd need time to understand him—or perhaps he needed to change his behavior.) I thought.

Mr. Choudhary gestured for us to follow him, and I looked back to see Mr. Rathore had already left. I shrugged and continued with the others.

As we passed through the galleries, my sense of wonder only grew. The palace was indeed ethereal and euphoric. A red carpet lay across the marble floors, and portraits of ancestors displayed on the walls radiated pride and glory. A beautiful chandelier hung from the ceiling, casting a warm glow.

Then my gaze fell upon a large framed photograph depicting Mr. Rathore standing beside his grandmother, who sat regally in a royal chair. She held his right hand, while he stood tall, a sword resting in his left hand, both dressed in royal attire, exuding honor and dignity. A small smile crept onto my face at the sight of their bond.

He might be rude and mannerless, but it was clear he loved his grandmother. I recalled hearing that he was a punctual, strict, and disciplined man who took his work seriously. Yet witnessing the tears in his eyes when he met her in the operating theater shocked me, I was seeing a pure love between grandson and grandmother. Here was a man who could deeply care for his loved ones, unafraid to show his emotions.

(But Suhani, don't forget how he treated you. He's still a mannerless and arrogant man.)

After 10 minutes

"Here" Mr. Choudhary said as he showed me to my room after dropping Ahana and  Krish at theirs.

Though I was still captivated by the palace's stunning architecture, I found myself even more surprised by the beauty of the room. Silk red curtains framed the windows, and exquisite paintings adorned the walls. A king-sized bed with silk sheets beckoned invitingly, and a magnificent mirror added to the room's elegance. The spacious bathroom boasted every possible luxury. Everything was perfect and royal, leaving me awestruck by the beauty surrounding me. I was loving every moment of it.

"Goodnight, Dr. Suhani" Mr. Choudhary said, and I smiled in response.

"Goodnight" I replied, watching as he left with the staff. I sighed, trying to imprint every detail in my memory. The atmosphere was so captivating.

I wandered toward the bathroom to freshen up. After a quick wash, I changed into my pajamas and placed a photo frame of my parents on the bedside table.

"I think I should get some sleep, I have a very busy day ahead" I murmured to myself as I tucked myself under the blanket. Almost immediately, my eyelids grew heavy, and I succumbed to the pull of sleep.
