I hung up the call and scanned my surroundings.
"Where is Mr. Choudhary?" I asked my bodyguard.
"Sir, he went with Dr. Suhani" he replied.
I nodded, processing the information. "Go and inform him that I've called for him" I ordered, my voice as rough and sharp as ever.
He nodded and promptly left to relay the message.
After sometime
"Sir, aapne bulaya?" Mr. Choudhary asked as he approached, his expression a mix of curiosity and concern.
(sir, you called?)
"Yes, Mr. Choudhary" I replied, turning back to my phone.
"Cancel all my meetings until the day after tomorrow. I won't be coming to the office for at least three days. If you need anything regarding the projects or meetings, reach out to me as soon as possible. I'll be handling work from home. For any signatures on files, send them through Mr. Choudhary to the palace" I instructed, my tone firm. I noticed Mr. Choudhary's shocked expression as I spoke.
"Alright, sir. Is Ma'am fine?" my manager inquired from the other end of the line. I glanced at Mr. Choudhary, whose worried expression mirrored my own concerns.
"Yes, she is" I stated, my voice steady. After hanging up, I turned my attention back to Mr. Choudhary.
"What are you thinking?" I asked.
"Pardon, sir, but you've never taken a single leave from work, even when you're sick. But..." he hesitated, clearly nervous.
"Mr. Choudhary, Dadisa needs me by her side. I can't leave her alone. Work can wait. there are others who can manage it. I don't want to leave her at this state when she needs me the most" I explained sincerely, my eyes softening at the thought of her. He nodded lightly, a warm smile spreading across his face.
"Well, I have to talk to the doctors. Where are they?" I asked, shifting my focus.
"Sir, they're having their dinner. They'll be here shortly" he informed me.
"Alright," I replied. "In the meantime, please handle the press and media. They're creating too much noise here, which isn't good for Dadisa or the other patients"
"Yes, sir, I'll take care of it" he affirmed before leaving.
"Mr. Pankaj, handle the crowd downstairs. Make sure no one reaches the fifth floor" I instructed one of my bodyguards. He nodded and left with three others, leaving just two with me.
"You guys, eat something," I said, and they nodded before departing as well.
after some time...
"I hope we didn't disturb you, Mr. Rathore" a familiar yet distant voice reached my ears. I turned around to see her—Dr. Suhani Chauhan—accompanied by her team members.
Our eyes locked for a moment, but I broke the gaze first.
"No, you didn't" I replied, cutting my call and slipping my phone into my kurta pocket. I had been discussing tomorrow's meeting with my manager, who was highlighting some important points.
"Ranisa has woken up from her sleep and wishes to see you" she said, her expression serious. A wave of joy surged through me at her words as I glanced from the operating theatre back to her.
"Then let's go" I said, allowing the delight to seep into my voice, even though I maintained a composed demeanor. She nodded, and we began walking toward the operating theatre, leaving the rest of her team behind to avoid crowding the area.
Upon reaching the door, Dr. Suhani opened it, and I stepped inside.
My heart sank as I took in the sight of her—eyes closed, face pale, surrounded by machines, an oxygen mask, and IV drips. The image of her lying there, almost lifeless, twisted my insides. I couldn't bear to see her like this. But then, she opened her eyes and saw me, managing a faint smile.
I felt an irresistible urge to move closer, my feet carrying me towards her. Dr Suhani positioned herself near the door to give us some privacy.
Gently, I took her right hand in mine and settled into the chair beside her.
"D-Dadisa," I whispered, my voice hoarse and thick with emotion. I pressed a soft kiss to the top of her hand, and she smiled weakly in response.
She struggled to speak, and Dr. Suhani stepped in to remove the oxygen mask from her face.
"A-Adi" she said my name softly. My heart melted at the sound, and my eyes softened as I looked into her tired gaze.
"Dadisa, ab kaisa lag raha hai aapko?" I asked softly, my voice gentle.
(Dadisa, how are you feeling now?)
"Beta, hum theek hain." Her words lifted a weight off my heart, and I sighed heavily, allowing a warm smile to spread across my face.
(Son, I'm fine now.)
"I told you clearly, why don't you listen to me" I said, my voice rising slightly in pitch.
"Please don't scold me now" she pouted a little. I chuckled, finding her adorable, and nodded my head in resignation.
"Okay, okay, I won't scold you, but please don't do that ever again." I sighed, realizing I shouldn't say anything that might hurt her at this moment. I'd definitely discuss this matter with her once she was back to her old self.
"You don't know how scared I was. Seeing you like that makes me weak, and you know I hate being weak. Do you want your grandson to be frail?" I said, watching as her eyes filled with tears. I smiled softly and wiped them away.
"Tears don't suit you, understand?" I said, and she chuckled lightly, nodding in agreement.
"Dr. Suhani, when can I take her home?" I asked, turning my attention to her.
"After three days, she'll be discharged. But Ranisa, you have to promise me that you won't eat anything harmful to your health. Only then will I allow you to leave, otherwise, you'll have to stay here as long as I say" she replied, her gaze serious. Dadisa nodded lightly.
"Mr. Rathore, you need to sign some papers" she said, looking at me. I nodded in understanding.
"Dr. Suhani.." Dadisa called. Suhani hurried over and took her hand, smiling down at her. Just then, the door opened.
"Sorry to disturb, Sir" Mr. Choudhary apologized as he entered the room. I nodded to assure him it was fine.
"Dr. Suhani, we've booked the hotel for you and your team" Mr. Choudhary stated. Dr. Suhani nodded in acknowledgment.
"Dr. Suhani, thank you. I owe you a lot" Dadisa said earnestly, her eyes filled with gratitude. Dr. Suhani shook her head.
"It's my duty, Ranisa. I was just fulfilling my responsibility, and I'm so grateful you fought wholeheartedly" she replied, smiling softly. I couldn't help but smile internally at her humility.
"God bless you, my child" Dadisa said warmly, and Suhani beamed.
"Dr. Suhani, could you do me a favor?" Dadisa asked, her expression earnest.
"Of course" Suhani replied.
"Would you please stay in the palace with us? I know I'm being a little pushy, but let me do something for you. Why stay in a hotel when you can be with us? You've come here to treat me, so it's my duty to ensure your comfort. Allow me to extend my hospitality as a queen of udaipur" she stated. I was taken aback, I knew they had helped us a lot, but this was unexpected.
"Ranisa, I apologize, but I think it's inappropriate to live with you. I know you feel bad for me coming here at the last minute, but I believe it's best to keep our personal and professional lives separate" Dr. Suhani replied straightforwardly.
"I understand, but it would be better if you stayed with us. You've come here because of me, so it's my responsibility to take care of you until you leave" Dadisa insisted, her willingness evident.
"Dr. Suhani, I think she's right. This way, you can keep an eye on her" I added, seeing the merit in her suggestion.
"But, Mr. Rathore..." she started to protest.
"Dr. Suhani, it's your duty to take care of her until she recovers. I also suggest you stay with us" I stated firmly.
"Prince is right, Dr. Suhani" Mr. Choudhary chimed in, nodding in agreement.
"But..." she tried again.
"Dr. Suhani, please, I insist" Dadisa pleaded, her eyes reflecting her sincerity. I felt irritation bubbling up, why was she hesitating? My Dadisa was clearly insistent, yet dr Suhani seemed unsure. She looked at Mr. Choudhary with concern, and he nodded, prompting her to glance back at me.
"Okay, wait. Let me just talk to my team first" she finally relented, and Dadisa smiled warmly.
"Thank you, dear" she said lovingly, and Suhani returned the smile.
"I'll be back, Mr. Rathore. Until then, please come with me to sign the papers; it's urgent" she instructed, and I nodded.
I stood up from the chair and followed her out, where I saw her entire team sitting together. They stood up as soon as they spotted us.
"Dr. Raghav, take Mr. Rathore's signature on the papers" she directed, and Dr. Raghav nodded.I walked with Dr. Raghav to sign the papers, feeling a sense of relief that things were beginning to settle.
Suhani's pov
"Hey Bhagwan, kahan phas gayi mein?" I thought as I walked towards my team. It wasn't that I had any problem with Ranisa, she was such a sweet lady. But this place? I was beginning to find yet another reason to despise it. I glanced in the direction where Mr. Khadoos Rathore had just left.
"What happened, Sona?" Dr. Ahana asked, her voice pulling me out of my thoughts. I looked at her, worry etched on my face.
" Ahana, Mr. Rathore and Ranisa want us to stay at their palace. They said it would be better if we stayed there so we could keep an eye on her all the time." As I finished speaking, my colleagues gasped in unison.
"WHAT!?" they exclaimed, all eyes wide with disbelief. I nodded, with slight frustration.
"But I have a very important meeting lined up" Dr. Mishra stated, crossing his arms.
"I tried to convince them, but they didn't listen to me. I want to leave here as soon as possible too. We could have stayed at a hotel, but they totally refused" I said, my voice rising in anger. I knew Ranisa had requested my presence, but I couldn't remain here for long. The memories this place held were countless and unbearable, it had taken everything from me. I felt suffocated, yet I couldn't share this burden with anyone around me.
"Well, I'm so excited to stay here! We can experience a royal lifestyle!"Ahana said enthusiastically, her bubbly personality shining through. I shook my head in disapproval.
" Ahana, we're all stuck here" I said. She fell silent and straightened her posture.
" Krish, please try to convince Mr. Choudhary. Maybe he could help us" Dr. Aditi suggested, and I nodded in agreement. Krish nodded as well.
"I will try" he said, determination in his voice. We all nodded, hopeful. He headed to the operating theater to talk to Mr. Choudhary. After a while, he returned with a look of disappointment.
"He said he can't do anything without Mr. Rathore's permission" he sighed, disbelief clear in his expression.
After sometime
"Mr. Rathore" I called out as I spotted him approaching with Dr. Raghav. They reached us, and he stood directly in front of me.
"Yes?" he replied, his tone as serious as ever.
"Mr. Rathore, I want to talk to you about something." I met his gaze, and he nodded. We stepped into a quieter corner.
"Mr. Rathore, my team has meetings lined up in Delhi, so we need to leave earlier than expected" I stated bluntly. His expression shifted from neutral to confused.
"What do you mean?" Confusion lingered in his eyes.
"What I mean is... we can't stay here for too long." As I finished my sentence, I saw his demeanor change to slight anger.
"No, you can't go" he said firmly, and I thought, (What the hell, dude?).
"Mr. Rathore, We have schedules to uphold, and we can't abandon them" I said, irritation rising in my voice.
"Don't worry about that, I'll talk to Dr. Sharma. From now onwards, your main case is dadisa's. But you, especially you, are not going anywhere until she is totally fine" he replied, his voice hoarse but commanding.
"Sir, I'm a doctor. I have other responsibilities too. I can't just leave my other patients for one. We'll check on Ranisa, and then we'll leave when she gets better" I retorted, frustration bubbling over. He smirked, and my anger escalated further. It wasn't that I would abandon Ranisa during her recovery; of course, I would ensure she got the care she needed. But staying at their palace? I just wanted to finish my work as quickly as possible so I could escape this place.
"You can try" he said, still smirking. Only I knew how much fury was building inside me. I wished I could smack that smirk off his face right now, but I knew that would land me in jail.
"Dr. Sharma, Dr. Suhani is saying she can't stay here. Is this how you show your professionalism? She's abandoning a patient for her own selfish reasons. Talk to her" he said, dialing a number. I was shocked by his audacity. I snatched the phone from his hand, glaring at him as I prepared to speak with Mr. Sharma.
After a while
"Yes, sir. Sure, sir. Bye." I hung up the call, shooting a glare at Mr. Rathore as I handed him back the phone. I hated that infuriating smirk of his.
"What did he say?" he asked, feigning ignorance about Mr. Sharma's response. I rolled my eyes in annoyance and sighed.
"He said that whoever has meetings can leave, but I have to stay here until Ranisa is completely fit and fine," I replied, irritation evident in my voice. His smirk widened, and I couldn't contain my frustration.
(How could he? This man... I swear, I'd kill him if I could.)
I rolled my eyes at him again and turned back toward my team.
"Everyone, Mr. Sharma called and said that those with meetings and surgeries can board the flight to Delhi. The rest of us will stay in Udaipur until further notice" I announced, glancing at my colleagues.
"So, Dr. Mishra, Dr. Raghav, and Dr. Aditi will head to Delhi, while the rest of us stay here." I finished my sentence, and Ahana jumped up in excitement. I shot her a glare, and she quickly subdued her enthusiasm.
"I'm sorry" she murmured, and I nodded lightly in acknowledgment.
"Mr. Choudhary, call the staff to help them carry their luggage to the palace" Mr. Grumpy Rathore ordered, and I glared at him.
(Bloody Khadoos!) I thought.
Mr. Choudhary nodded and left to carry out the command.
(I really hate this man. How could he do this? Doesn't he have any manners? Who made him a prince, anyway?)
